Hailing from Australia, Paris Pompor was a DJ, radio host, and the co-founder of influential label Groovescooter Records.
Paris Pompor, an Australian DJ who also worked as a radio presenter and co-founded Groovescooter Records, has passed away at the age of 58. No cause of death has been given at the time of writing.
Groovescooter confirmed that Pompor died on the morning of Wednesday, May 7 in a statement shared to Instagram. It noted that the family plans to hold a private funeral, with more celebration of life to follow “in the coming weeks with friends.”
Having grown up in Canberra, Pompor DJed and played in bands as a young adult. He and Georgie Zuzak founded Groovescooter Records in 1996, a label that would go on to platform artists like Steve Kilbey, Kylie Auldist, and Dirty Three. The brand also expanded to host documentary screenings, panel talks, and art exhibitions in partnership with Sydney Film Festival.
As a radio host, Pompor ran a show called Jumping The Gap on Sydney radio station 2SER 107.3. Earlier today, the broadcasting platform aired a tribute consisting of four hours of Pompor’s programming.
“Paris was a pillar of Sydney’s creative community and gave us all so much and treated everyone with such kindness,” wrote Sydney theater Golden Age Cinema & Bar in a reply. “Sending our love and condolences to Georgie and all those close to him.”
“Paris was a brilliant DJ, producer and radio presenter whose incredible taste was only outshone by his obvious love of music, deep knowledge, incisive wit and infectious sense of humour,” wrote 2SER in a post of its own.
We here at EDM Identity express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Paris Pompor during what can only be a difficult time.
