Previously, The Brooklyn Mirage had pushed back against speculation that it wouldn’t meet its ambitious relaunch schedule.
The skeptics called it: The Brooklyn Mirage has called off its grand reopening. Yesterday, May 1, the news broke that the party featuring Sara Landry would not take place as planned, with only a few hours before doors were set to open. The venue has since officially canceled all shows that were supposed to occur over the weekend.
In a statement shared on Instagram, The Brooklyn Mirage wrote that “tonight’s show is canceled” despite them being “extraordinarily transparent” about the “long hours, progress, and the passion” that went into the build. “We want to be clear: the venue is show ready and the New Mirage has been built to exacting safety, structural, mechanical and technical specifications,” reads the statement. “However, we were not able to meet the final inspection deadline today.”
It continues: “We, as a company, take full responsibility. This isn’t about construction, but compliance. We’re working closely with city officials and will continue to be transparent throughout this process.”
In their statement on May 2, the venue announced the cancelation of the remaining shows slated to take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. “While we are working 24/7 on the solution, we want to first and foremost send a sincere apology to the fans, artists, crew members, and hundreds of employees who will bring Mirage to life each night,” they said. “Their livelihoods and passion are at the heart of everything we do, and we are doing everything in our power to get back on track—safely and in full compliance—as soon as possible.”
Previously, a representative on behalf of the venue told EDM Identity that “the New Mirage will open on May 1st” and “there are no delays in the build schedule” when asked about videos circulating online of what appeared to be little more than a structural frame and wall system on site within ten days of the grand reopening. They did not immediately respond to a follow-up email asking how they could make the claim with certainty so soon before the scheduled relaunch while an inspection was still pending.
The announcement will remind many in the dance music community of how the first day of Electric Zoo 2023 was canceled two hours before it was set to commence, with further breakdowns overshadowing the following two days. In 2022, Avant Gardner — the complex that includes Brooklyn Mirage — acquired Electric Zoo’s parent company, Made Event.
The Brooklyn Mirage says that ticket holders for all planned events from Thursday to Sunday will receive a full refund. Keep your eyes peeled for an SMS or email message from them with further details.
