Los Angeles-based artist Landopolo has spun a mix filled with deep cuts and fresh tunes he’s unearthed while crate-digging.
Southern California is home to many DJs and producers looking to make their break in the dance music scene, and Landopolo is one you shouldn’t be sleeping on. Hailing from Los Angeles, he’s begun to carve out a niche in the local scene by taking the stage at Blind Tiger, Goyo Club Party, and more while also playing the Insomniac Passport Lounge at Escape Halloween.
Landopolo’s love for dance music runs deep, as he developed a passion early on in his life. “I grew up DJing all types of house music and made it a point to learn how to take an audience on a journey rather than sticking to one type of subgenre,” he shared. “For me, It gets boring pretty fast. From disco to breaks or tribal to darker or deep house… I try to make them all make sense together. That’s the fun and anxious part.”
While Landopolo might be building his home in the underground community in Los Angeles, he’s also honing his skills by taking gigs elsewhere so he can continue to diversify his track selection beyond warehouse vibes. “I enjoy getting into the local scenes around LA and checking out what’s happening or meeting the people throwing events,” he said. “There are different layers of the underground out here, and there is a lot of potential for collaboration. I recently started pushing for bookings outside of LA or California to check out the local scenes elsewhere.”
Miami, New York, and then Europe are where Landopolo plans to expand in the future. He also has plans to drop some fresh tunes for everyone to feast their ears on this year. But before that, he’s ready to celebrate the spring months in Southern California. To do that, he dropped off a mix that showcases his underground style and crate-digging ability.
This mix has some tracks I currently have in rotation while I’m playing my underground shows. I dig for new artists and music every day for a couple of hours, so there might be some stuff in there you may not have realized you needed. The weather has been crazy nice lately, so that inspired me to head into a more groovy, dancy atmosphere towards the end.
