Get to Know the Mesmerizing Sounds of TLUXX

TLUXX swung by to chat about working with Adara on “Destination,” the path he’s taken in the scene, and more.

Los Angeles-based DJ and producer TLUXX has been on quite the ride to get to where he is in the scene. Initially pursuing a career as a baseball player, he had a cancer scare in 2012, which dashed those dreams. During the recovery from his surgery, he found solace in electronic music, with Avicii acting as a gateway for him to discover more artists and fall deeper in love with different styles.

Leaning into his passion, TLUXX began producing music and learning to DJ. He then leveled his career up by attending ICON Collective and Berklee College of Music. These opportunities helped him enhance his skills in the studio, which led to releases on labels such as In My Opinion, Suanda Future, and more. They also simultaneously opened doors for him to the business side of the scene.

Last year, TLUXX added another label to his list, AVA Recordings, with the release of “Virus” and “Tell Me Why” with Carly Lind. Now, in 2025, he’s dropped off another trance-fueled gem on the label in the form of “Destination.” This time around, TLUXX has joined forces with Adara to bring the tune to life, which features a sublime soundscape filled with mesmerizing melodies and evocative vocals.

After the release of “Destination,” TLUXX swung by to chat about the new single on AVA Recordings, his journey in the scene, and plenty more. Listen to his exclusive guest mix and read on for the conversation!

Hi TLUXX, thanks so much for chatting with us today. Before we dig into your recent work, let’s dive into your past a bit. After battling with a cancer scare, you found a passion for electronic music and dove headfirst into DJing and producing. Looking back, can you share what those first years felt like and how it helped your recovery?

Oh man, I was so lost in my mind. I wanted to be a professional baseball player before I was a DJ. But being sick pretty much removed my purpose in life, which was playing ball. Music saved my life, and it gave me a new passion, new goals, and new friends. Music was everything for my recovery.

You also leveled up your career by attending ICON Production School and Berklee College of Music. These schools certainly helped you learn to produce music at a higher level, but do you feel there were added benefits of taking courses at either one?

I would say both were very good. When I first got to ICON, I didn’t really know what to do with music production. They really taught me the basics, and I was able to make presentable music. They were very hands-on, and I learned a lot. Berklee College of Music took my knowledge and basically taught me how to perfect my craft. Every day, you learn more about music production, but after graduating from Berklee I was gifted with so much incredible knowledge not only in music production but theory and business as well.

Congrats on your new single, “Destination”! This tune saw you team up with Adara, who brought her gorgeous vocals into the mix. What’s the story about how you two first linked up to create this tune?

I met Adara in a studio session last year with my good friends at Nilsix (Orjan Nilsen & Mark Sixma) we were doing some songwriting with them and just kind of hit it off. I had the perfect instrumental for her and through some back and fourth collaboration we came up with Destination!

“Destination” was released on AVA Recordings, a label where you began to make a home last year with “Virus” and “Tell Me Why.” Do you feel their support and guidance helped you level up your career?

I feel like their support has meant the world to me. Allowing them to take me into their label feels like I have found a family within the industry. All very talented people and the co owner Somna has really taken me under his wing. I am very grateful.

Next month, you’ll be joining Somna for a special night in Los Angeles. What can fans expect from your set that night? Do you have some fresh tunes you might drop during your set?

There will be rhythm, groove, vibes, and energy. From progressive house to melodic techno to trance. Lots of vibe,s for sure. As for fresh tunes? I’m sure some will be making an appearance.

You also have your debut in Canada on the horizon, supporting Morgan Page in Calgary. Once you have this country checked off your list, which international destination do you have your sights set on next?

I wish to get back to Croatia someday however right now my eyes are set on Japan. It feels like the next best step on my journey.

Trance has ebbed and flowed in popularity over the past two decades, but its influence on other genres runs deep. What are your thoughts on where trance is currently and how it’s impacted other genres like melodic house and techno?

Coming from someone who wasn’t raised a trance-head , I think it’s very interesting how the scene is shifting. I myself have even started to dabble in techno. You’re correct you see a lot of trance moving to these genres because they are closely related, and easy to mix styles in sets. I believe in the future though, you will start to see more and more different variations of trance as well as some deep roots trance.

Finally, what goals do you hope to achieve in the coming months? Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?

I just want to release music and play shows. As long as I can continue to do that consistently, I’ll be happy. Expect some more releases from me, and definitely, some unannounced shows are coming up.

Thanks for having me!
