Create Music Group has acquired the catalogs of deadmau5 and mau5trap, while also forming a joint venture for future output.

The past two and a half decades in the electronic music scene have featured many artists who have become true legends, and deadmau5 is one of them. He and his record label, mau5trap, have been a force to be reckoned with, helping pave the way for genres ranging from electro house to dubstep and more. Today, the next era has been opened as Create Music Group (CMG) has announced its acquisition of deadmau5 and mau5trap’s music catalogs.

“From the earliest days of Create Music Group, [co-founder and COO] Alexandre Williams and I had the privilege of working alongside Joel and his business partner Dean Wilson, witnessing firsthand the evolution of an icon,” said Jonathan Strauss, co-founder and CEO of Create Music Group. “Now, as the stewards of deadmau5 and mau5trap’s legendary catalog, we inherit a legacy that changed music forever. Joel’s influence reaches far beyond sound—his mastery bridges music, gaming, and technology, inspiring a new generation to think bigger. This is more than an acquisition; it’s a responsibility.”

The deal, which is reportedly valued at over $55 million, sees Create Music Group become the new owners of sound recordings and copyrights for over 4,000 songs produced by deadmau5 and mau5trap artists. This includes the works of artists like Feed Me, i_o, REZZ, Skrillex, and others who have graced the imprint over the years. Additionally, this acquisition doubles as the formation of a joint venture between Create Music Group, deadmau5, and mau5trap for future recordings.

I have worked closely with Jonathan, Alex and Create for nearly two decades now, building my own career as well as the artists on mau5trap.We didn’t need to look far when we were considering a partner to help get it all to the next level. With Create, I feel the music is going to reach more.
