John Summit, Dom Dolla’s New Orleans Pop-Up Shut Down in 30 Minutes

A packed crowd that Gathered to attend John Summit and Dom Dolla’s Bourbon Street pop-up party forced police to intervene.

John Summit and Dom Dolla threw a party to remember on Saturday in New Orleans — for a little less than 30 minutes, at least.

The two frequent collaborators surprised fans in the area with a free pop-up event in which they played a back-to-back DJ set from a balcony on Bourbon Street the day before Super Bowl LIX. A massive and tightly packed crowd predictably formed on the street corner, prompting local authorities to step in and shut it down after what numerous online commentators have said was about 28 minutes.

In a TikTok video uploaded by Dom Dolla (real name Dominic Matheson), a police officer on the balcony can be heard saying to John Summit (real name John Schuster), “There are too many people right now, it’s a security issue. Shut it down.” Schuster then gets on the mic and relays the message to the throngs of fans down below, eliciting audible groans in protest.

While it lasted, the back-to-back set saw Schuster play his 2024 single “Shiver” featuring HAYLA as well as his and Silver Panda’s remix of “Sweet Disposition,” released in 2008 by The Temper Trap. Prior to the occasion, Schuster also teased that he was “gonna piss off dom dolla and play dubstep during our b2b today.”

Schuster is no stranger to controversy. Outside of cheeky and irreverent tweets, he drew criticism in 2023 for publicly calling out the organizers of Off The Grid Campout after they asked him to discontinue using the same name for events hosted by his label. That year, he announced an event series partnership called Everything Always with Matheson, who also played the Sports Illustrated-hosted SI The Party in New Orleans on Saturday.

Fans of John Summit can catch him in Vail on February 14-15 for an event hosted by Experts Only, the name of his label following the 2023 rebrand. With any luck, this gathering will remain active longer than half an hour.
