“I feel like I’ve been run over by a train, but I guess that was expected,” said Dada Life’s Stefan Engblom following his liver transplant operation.
Dada Life fans are breathing a collective sigh of relief today as Stefan Engblom, one member of the Swedish duo, has shared that he’s on the other side of a successful liver transplant surgery.
In November, Engblom got candid on social media, breaking the news to his fans that he had been suffering from a rare and incurable liver disease called primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). By then, his conditioned had worsened to the point that his doctors told him he needed the transplant to live. On Tuesday, he updated his supporters to let them know that the hospital had a liver for him.
In a subsequent Instagram post yesterday from his hospital bed, a visibly disoriented Engblom shared that the operation was finished and had gone well. “The liver transplant went amazing, they said,” he began. “The liver fit perfectly. I feel like I’ve been run over by a train, but I guess that was expected.”
PSC is an autoimmune disorder, the exact cause of which remains unknown by medical researchers. Symtoms can range from fever, chills, and night sweats all the way to enlarged liver or spleen and weight loss.
Engblom and his fellow Swede Olle Cornéer performed and released music as Phasio before starting their Dada Life project in 2006. After releasing their 2009 album Just do The Dada, they soared off the momentum of the 2010-2015 EDM explosion, dropping hit singles like “Feed The Dada” and “Kick Out the Epic Motherfucker” while playing major gatherings like EDC Las Vegas and Ultra Music Festival.
Cornéer has also overcome health crises. In 2014, he was diagnosed with cancer — and he announced plans to stop performing as part of Dada Life in 2017 due to health concerns, although he clarified that these were unrelated to his previous struggles with cancer.
We here at EDM Identity wish Stefan Engblom a speedy recovery so he can get back to doing what he does best.
