Niamh Jobson was born in Hong Kong and made a name for herself in Glasgow nightlife as a DJ, producer, and presenter for a local radio show.
Glagow nightlife is shaken this week as the local community mourns Niamh Jobson, who died in Hong Kong on January 17. Her cause of death has not been given at the time of writing, but she was known to have suffered from a childhood bone cancer called osteosarcoma.
Jobson’s family broke the news in an Instagram post from her account. They wrote that “it is with the most insurmountable pain” that they announced her passing, remarking that she was a “hugely gifted, talented, intuitive, wise, fiercely clever, funny, sparkly, stunningly beautiful legend of a girl.”
“Today (22nd) is her 23rd birthday,” the post continues. “Please, wherever you are in the world, whatever you are doing, join us in celebrating our much loved Queen today.”
Niamh Jobson was born in Hong Kong before relocating to Scotland at an early age, spending some her childhood on the scenic Isle of Eigg in the Inner Hebrides. It was when she moved to Glasgow that her DJ career started to take shape, especially when she began working with local nightlife institution Sub Club.
Specializing in techno and dub, Jobson also landed an opportunity as a radio presenter for Glasgow station Radio Buena Vida. She and fellow Glaswegian artist Kairogen hosted a show on the platform called “Dub Series,” and she delivered mixes that were broadcast on other stations as well.
“We will be in touch in the coming weeks to inform you of further arrangements,” Jobson’s family wrote in closing. “Thank you and much love to you all. Rest in Glory our Queenie. We love you with all our might.”
We here at EDM Identity express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Niamh Jobson during what can only be a difficult time.
