According to Fat Tony, the incident at The Lido in Margate, UK involved another DJ whose friend called him by a homophobic slur.

Anthony Marnach, a DJ known professionally in the dance music world as Fat Tony, has said that he was attacked and knocked unconscious following a performance at The Lido in Margate, UK on the evening of Friday, December 13.

On Saturday, a visibly bruised and swollen Marnach posted a video on Instagram recounting the incident. He said that he “can’t really go into details” but that he was “attacked last night at a gig, in the DJ box by another DJ,” which led to him “being knocked out, then taken to hospital and being in A&E all night.” As a result, he said, he was forced to cancel his performance that night at No90 in East London.

“Obviously, you can see by the damage on my face and the swelling that it’s not good,” Marnach said. “I’m absolutely gutted. I’m gutted this happened. I’m gutted that people choose violence especially when what we try to do comes from a place of love.”

Marnach went into greater detail in conversation with Resident Advisor. He reportedly said that altercation began when the unnamed DJ barged into the booth with his entourage and allegedly pushed him three times. According to Marnach, they shook hands and made up — but it didn’t end there.

“Then his mate comes up and says ‘what’s your problem you fucking queer?'” Marnach said. “I then went back into the booth to get my USB stick and that’s the last thing I remember. I was totally knocked out, and I’m told the DJ was trying to stamp on my head while I was unconscious on the floor.”

Yesterday, December 15, Marnach shared a second video on Instagram. In addition to thanking his supporters for their well wishes, he said that “the police are doing what they need to do and the situation will be sorted.”
