Sound On Tape’s fantastic mix for our Fall Frequencies series showcases his love for UK Garage, jazz, electro, and more.
While major dance music hubs might be pushing a plethora of sounds and artists forward in the scene, something special has been brewing in smaller communities where creativity runs free. A perfect example of this is Cleveland, which boasts of its own tight-knit scene. That’s where you’ll find artists like Sound On Tape honoring the past and present to show off how bright the future can be with his emotive electronic dance music style.
Dive into Sound On Tape’s mind, and you’ll find an artist whose roots are firmly planted in various sonic realms. Early releases like “Hush Harbors” put his passion for incorporating elements from garage, electro, jazz, and more front and center, and he’s only continued to enhance his blending ability since. More recently, Sound On Tape dropped off his debut EP on Cleveland’s 904L Word Class Sound imprint, Digits, which features his tracks “Gabriel” and “You And One Other,” along with a remix of “Hush Harbors” from fellow UK Garage champion MPH.
Digits is a gorgeous EP perfect for lazy summer days spent by the pool or chilly winter ones where you’re catching up. After its release, Sound On Tape channeled those vibes to curate a mix for our Fall Frequencies series, dripping with gems from him, his influences, and his contemporaries. You’ll hear tunes from his EP, along with others from the likes of Sammy Virji, El-B, WIlfy D, and more throughout its runtime, so make sure to give it a spin!
