A 22-year-old man died at Forum Birmingham over the weekend. The nightclub has addressed the incident in a statement.
On Saturday, October 26, a 22-year-old man passed away after attending the DnB Allstars Halloween 360° event at Forum Birmingham. Lawmakers then revoked the Dale End nightclub’s premises license, prompting it to issue a statement.
Forum Birmingham wrote that their “thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends” of the deceased. The statement explained that he “became unwell in the venue,” and that in-house medics attempted to treat him before he was “taken to hospital by ambulance.” It continues, “We have all been deeply affected by this tragedy as, we know, have many in our wider community.”
The unnamed man wasn’t the only one hospitalized during Saturday evening’s event. Two 20-year-old men who were also treated but eventually discharged. The West Midlands Police believe that all three may have done drugs together.
Another 20-year-old man was arrested for “being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.” The police said that Forum Birmingham “may have had an inadequate search regime in place.”
The club’s hasn’t responded defensively, instead emphasizing its willingness to cooperate. “We are working closely with the local public authorities to fully understand the circumstances and ensure that we continue to provide the safest possible environment for patrons, as we have done over the last three years,” reads its statement. “We accept the council’s decision to temporarily suspend the venue’s premises license while we complete this process and we are committed to putting in place any necessary additional measures.”
According to the police, a post-mortem of the deceased will be conducted soon with the help of the local coroner.
