Jack Revill aka Jackmaster died in Ibiza “following complications arising from an accidental head injury,” according to his family.
Jack Revill, known professionally in the dance music world as Jackmaster, died in Ibiza this morning, October 12, at age 38.
A statement from Revill’s family confirming his passing was published to his Instagram page later in the day. It attributes his death to “complications arising from an accidental head injury” without going into the specifics surrounding the incident.
“His family — Kate, Sean, and Johnny — are utterly heartbroken,” reads a passage of the statement. “While deeply touched by the overwhelming support from friends, colleagues, and fans, the family kindly requests privacy as they navigate the immense grief of this devastating loss.”
Jack Revill began working in Glasgow record store Rubadub at age 14. By 17, he landed a residency at local techno club Monox. He launched his first label and event brand, Dress 2 Sweat, in 2007. In a 2016 conversation with DMY, he said, “I was working in Rubadub, and when you’re working with a distribution company, the natural progression is to start your own label.”
But it was the Numbers imprint that Revill launched alonsgide Calum and Neil Morton that became inextricably linked to his legacy. The label’s early successes included tracks like “Bipp” by the late SOPHIE and “Far Nearer” by Jamie xx.
Revill stood out as one of a small handful of electronic musicians booked primarily for their DJ skills rather than recordings. His most recent release was the early 2024 single “Nitro” featuring Kid Enigma.
No stranger to controversy, Revill was open about his casual substance use and had garnered a reputation as a party animal. In 2018, he publicly apologized for behaving “inappropriately and offensively to staff” at the Bristol festival Love Saves The Day after event management confronted him for allegedly trying to grab and kiss people against their will.
We here at EDM Identity express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Jackmaster during what can only be a difficult time.
