The application to make beloved London nightclub Printworks a “permanent cultural venue” has been approved, allowing plans for its future to proceed.

Printworks rapidly transformed from an abandoned printing factory into a globally renowned nightlife destination after opening in 2017. The superclub in London regularly hosted some of the biggest acts in dance music while also presenting incredible showcases, but it was unfortunately forced to shut its doors in 2023 due to redevelopment. Today, news has surfaced that will lift the spirits of the Printworks faithful – its application to be a “permanent cultural venue” has been approved!

Earlier this year, property developers British Land and AustralianSuper submitted a proposal to the Southwark Council that outlined their plans for redeveloping the area. This plan included offices and shops for half of the space, but the other half would become a nightlife venue again, with Broadwick Live partnering to bring it back to life as early as 2026.

The application was received in February, went through a consultation in August, and has since been approved by Southwark Council. Although approved, no additional details about the space have surfaced from the property developers or Broadwick Live. Whether Printworks returns to its former glory or is reimagined with a new look, it’s exciting news for those championing nightlife in London and dance music lovers who flocked to the space.

“This is an extremely positive moment for London’s nightlife and the entire cultural ecosystem of the city. Printworks has long stood as a beacon of creativity and innovation, not just in the UK but globally,” said Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association.

The approval is a testament to the incredible support from the local authorities, community, the music industry, key stakeholders and the dedicated team behind Printworks. With full steam ahead on these exciting plans, we are one step closer to seeing the venue reopen its doors, bringing back the energy, passion, and world-class experiences that made it such an iconic space.

The next chapter of Printworks is anticipated to be vital in recovering and revitalizing London’s nightlife, which has taken a major hit in recent years following the pandemic. Stay tuned for more details on its future!
