Mr Tout Le Monde swung by to chat about how he came to love electronic music from an early age and share his thoughts on the scene in France.
While genres like hard techno have been pummeling crowds into oblivion, the softer side of the dance music scene has also continued to flourish. Lyon-based artist Mr Tout Le Monde is helping keep those vibes alive with his emotional dance music style, which blends elements from indie dance, pop, deep house, and more while showing off his skills as a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist along the way. He’s seen plenty of success over the past few years, with multiple albums and tours that have taken him to countries like Germany, Canada, and the US.
This month, Mr Tout Le Monde added another stunner to his discography, his third album, YOU, to complete the SUN-HER-YOU trilogy. He’s also preparing for his biggest headline show yet in Paris later this fall. Yet, to truly understand this artist, you have to dive a bit deeper into his backstory, which began when he was growing up in France.
“I had a lot of luck to grow up in France, where art, music, and especially electronic music culture are prominent,” Mr Tout Le Monde shared before telling us that he was educated by his father, who opened the doors to artists like Deep Forest, Vangelis, and Jean-Michel Jarre. The latter of those three he saw in concert when he was 16, which helped deepen his passion for electronic music. “Later, I was able to discover all kinds of styles, from house to techno and EDM, thanks to the versatile nightlife in Lyon, my hometown.”
That musical exploration of Lyon’s nightlife struck a chord with Mr Tout Le Monde, who began DJing and producing and found a home in chill electronica along the way. He described the scene in France as “eclectic,” which can be heard in his own work, and cited a number of artists who also have showcased that along the way.
“We have so many great artists, and all styles are represented, from Daft Punk to David Guetta, DJ Snake to Madeon, Tchami, Gesaffelstien, Laurent Garnier, Justice, Worakls, Jean-Michel Jarre, and so many other amazing artists,” he shared. “Each of them has their own identity and can inspire and gather different crowds all around the world but keep on challenging the status quo.”
As for a night out on the town in Lyon, Mr Tout Le Monde has quite a ride that he’d take us on. “We would start at Confluence with an 8 Pool and a beer to kick off the night. Then we’d take some food away and go up in the hills to eat with an amazing view of the city and the stars,” he shared. “And I’d take you to a concert or ‘Le Sucre’ to end the night with some good music on the terrasse close by the river.”
To showcase his unique take on electronica and celebrate the completion of his album trilogy, Mr Tout Le Monde shared a mix for everyone to stream. “I had some fun, and I included a few of my remixes and the tracks I’m loving at the moment,” he said about the curation process. Found inside are some of his own tunes, along with others from the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Aaron Hibell, Lavern, No Requests, Helsloot, David Spinelli, and more.
