Onhell: “Hot Fun Sexy Queer Parties Are Where It’s At; If You Can’t Handle It, Don’t Come”

Onhell speaks on his juntos EP, his notorious sexy parties, the importance of friendships, his appearance in Infinite Falling Ground II, and more!

Onhell is the wearer of many hats. He’s a unicorn with bright and shiny potential to change how we perceive artistry as a whole. Not only does he fill the void of LGBTQ+ inclusivity that our scene so desperately needs to jump on the bandwagon, but he also creates the sounds that inspire this beautiful melting pot of asses to shake. To top it all off, he is also a guru in the kitchen. What’s not to love about this guy?

Over the years, his musical talents have caught the eyes of two of the most respected names in the game, Zeds Dead and Alix Perez. Just this year alone, he released EPs with both 1985 Music and Deadbeats, which have racked listeners’ brains with the innovation of each record. His most recent release, juntos, brought a playful element to his sound as each track, except one, was a collaboration with friends he holds dear to his heart.

With his sexy parties, delectable salsas, and unveiling of juntos, it was prime time to sit down with Onhell and learn more about what makes him tick. With a heart for the people and a passion that can’t be dimmed, we couldn’t help but fall in love with his character even more than before.

Listen to Onhells’ latest EP, juntos, and read on to discover how meaningful friendships are to him, his emotions on working with the astounding House of Yes, and more!

Hey Onhell, thank you for taking the time to chat with us today! Your latest release, juntos, focuses on the collaborative process with friends. What aspects of working together do you find most rewarding? Were there any particularly memorable moments or experiences that stood out to you while making this EP?

Without my friends, I am nothing. I don’t have any parents, really, and my family is a little out there. Love them, but you know how it is. So, my chosen family is really where I find my source of love. A lot of that comes from music friends. Most of the time, I don’t even make music with them because we’re too busy being sweet, sweet humans together. But when it happens, and it slaps, oh god, does that feel good. Thank god for them. They help me make songs when I don’t want to and make it fun.

You have been bringing sexy back to select lucky states with a heavy focus on safe spaces and inclusivity with your recent parties. One of your stops was at the legendary House of Yes in New York, which initially inspired these soirees. How did it feel to see your vision come to life in the walls of the place that sparked your inspiration?

So surreal. So awesome. So full circle. It’s like being inspired by Radiohead, and then a year later, you’re sharing the stage with them. I just love that they believed in me, saw the vision and fucked with it to want it there. Hot fun sexy queer parties are where it’s at, and if you cant handle it, dont come.

The cat is out of the bag, and you’ve been spotted in Ivy Lab’s Infinite Falling Ground Part II AV show. What was it like being a part of one of the year’s most anticipated audio-visual sequels?

[Laughs] I was totally not aware of what was going on. My friend Gina was helping direct it, and she was like come be a chef in this scene for Ivy Lab’s thing. I said, okay, show up, and she proceeded to tell me that I would be yelling at everyone in this kitchen while holding Lake Hills’ baby. I’m like, Jesus Christ, okay, fine. I had never acted before, and there I was, trying to think of things to yell at these actors in a room full of all these filming folks. Very funny moment for me.

You’re a true entrepreneur with an extensive track record, and you’ve explored your culinary hand in many ways by making salsas, chocolates, and candies on top of dabbling in self-promoted events, acting, and producing music. The sky seems to be the limit with you, so what new avenue do you plan to tap into next?

New? I feel like I’m collecting the infinity stones. If I were to do another thing, I would explode. [Laughs] I think for right now, I’m going to focus on the things I’ve already started. So working on collaborations, maybe an album. Focus on doing bigger and better and more parties across the States. Focus on making the salsa a more regular thing. Just getting more organized and focus. Something I’m not the best at and could use some help. I’m self managed, so everything you see is me. I’m editing almost all the videos and making the flyers, and making spreadsheets and making music and doing the most. I’m tired, but there’s no slowing down. This shit is just too damn fun.

Throughout your entire career, if there were one thing you could be remembered for, what would you want it to be?

To be honest, I don’t think about this too much. Just trying to do the things and do them right, you feel me? Just having morals about stuff, and it being fun at the same time.

Now that juntos is out, are there any new projects or collaborations you’re particularly excited about? What can fans expect from you in the near future?

Collaborations with Hypho and Ooah from The Glitch Mob. Those are coming out next. Maybe that Tsuruda collaboration we got lined up. Who knows. I got some shit that needs dusting off. But collab parties. I wanna collab with more people to throw parties with.
