Drum and Bass Fans Showed Up in Droves to DNBNL Denver

Brownies & Lemonade brought their DNBNL event concept to Dave & Busters in Denver on Wednesday night, and it was an absolute blast.

“Well, that’s ambitious,” I thought when Brownies & Lemonade announced that their first-ever Denver edition of DNBNL would take place only a week out — on a Wednesday, no less. Last night, they proved they were up to the task at hand.

Dave & Busters served as the backdrop for the almost impromptu gathering — as it did for DNBNL debut events in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The lively setting brought an air of novelty to the occasion. Once you made your way through the restaurant and bar area saddling the entrance, you found yourself immersed in a casino-esque maze of arcade and Skee Ball machines covered in dazzling lights.

And, of course, the music got louder the farther you walked. Opening the show was Austin DJ and producer Justin Hawkes. By the time Andromedik appeared behind the decks to make his US debut, the dancefloor and much of the area surrounding it was standing room only as revelers got weird in the best possible way to the Belgian artist’s saccharine flavor of DnB. Up next was veteran electronic musician Culture Shock, and then Wilkinson brought the house down with a blend of anthemic and heavy song selection.

By no means was DNBNL Brownies & Lemonade’s first time throwing a party in Denver. For plenty, however, it felt like they had really and truly arrived in the Mile High City.

Brownies & Lemonade cut their teeth on house parties in Los Angeles — and while they’ve gone on to bigger and better things, they never lost sight of the spontaneity at the heart of their brand. They’ve continued to host gatherings in unique locations such as laundromats, often eschewing lineup announcements (as they did ahead of Wednesday night’s party).

Needless to say, another DNBNL will more likely than not touch down in Denver in the near future. If the debut serves as any indication, you shouldn’t expect to hear about it with much advance notice.
