Lost Lands Bans Pyrotechnics, Smoking, and More Due to Drought Conditions

Due to the severe drought affecting Ohio, the State Fire Marshal has banned pyrotechnics, open flames, smoking, and more at Lost Lands.

Safety has continued to be one of the top concerns for Excision and the Lost Lands team regarding the bass-fueled festival, and some important information has surfaced regarding this year’s edition. Today, the festival organizers announced that because of the severe drought in Ohio, the State Fire Marshal has banned many elements and activities that could pose a fire risk next weekend.

Unfortunately, the ban includes flame effects and pyrotechnics, meaning there won’t be any fireworks displays or blasts of powerful pyro from the stage that have become a hallmark of Lost Lands. This ban also goes a few steps further to affect attendees as well, with smoking not being allowed at the festival this year (but vaporizers are okay) and any form of outdoor cooking by attendees with open flame or propane being prohibited. Those in RVs with electric stoves will be permitted as long as they are inside the vehicle.

Fire lane violations will be strictly enforced at this year’s edition of Lost Lands, so ensure your tents, shade canopies, and more are inside your designated campground space. Additionally, attendees are urged not to idle their vehicles at their camping spots.

Food vendors operating at Lost Lands will need to abide by specific requirements to operate. This includes having water trucks stationed nearby, gravel flooring, having a fire extinguisher that’s accessible, and utilizing increased monitoring during the event.

“We’re disappointed by the situation the drought has put us in and wish this weren’t the case,” Lost Lands shared in their statement. “While the environment is out of our control, we’re looking forward to putting on a fantastic festival for you. We’re excited to welcome you all in just a few days!”

Lost Lands is set to take place in Legend Valley, Ohio on September 20-22, with the campgrounds opening on Tuesday, September 17. Stay tuned for additional updates on this year’s edition.
