Louis The Child’s third edition of Alter-Ego wowed fans with unforgettable music, comedy performances, and an announcement for the duo’s forthcoming album.
Louis The Child is no stranger to experimenting with new sounds. From their start as future bass pioneers to the dark house sounds of their album Black Marble, the Chicago-based duo has consistently shown their ability to produce diverse tracks. Drawing influence from artists such as Skrillex, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Kid Cudi, the pair have a love for a wide range of music, which led to the concept of Alter-Ego.
Alter-Ego was launched in 2022 with the intention of giving a platform to friends and rising artists who were looking to experiment with their sound. Over the last three years, there have been countless firsts, including Dr. Fresch b2b Moksi, a hard rock set from SNBRN, and a comedy set from Louis The Child’s Robby Hauldren.
This year’s edition continued that tradition by bringing another dynamic lineup to Brooklyn’s Avant Gardner on August 17. The multi-stage show focused on unique sets where artists could express themselves through genres different than what they’re known for. Inviting some of their favorite artists, the duo crafted a diverse lineup of DJs along with a small comedy lineup.
Louis The Child kicked off the evening with an explosive Playground Set, during which the duo freestyled, playing their favorite tunes on the iconic Brooklyn Mirage stage. With song selections varying from an edit of “Music Sounds Better With You” by Stardust to sumthin sumthin and ero808’s bass-fueled “what U need,” the pair displayed their range and knack for transitioning genres seamlessly.
While the Brooklyn Mirage stage featured DJs known for their alternative electronic sound, The Great Hall hosted prominent bass artists, including Mr. Carmack, TroyBoi, and Jon Casey.
Mr. Carmack’s throwback set was stacked with trap bangers alongside insane edits that had the whole dancefloor grooving. While visuals for Mr. Carmack were simplistic, TroyBoi’s classics and house set delivered a spectacle of colorful visuals and pulsating lights. His supercharged set increased energy as he blended house remixes with some of his most popular songs, such as 2018’s “Hey Bo!” which was the perfect lead-in to the main event.
We returned to the Brooklyn Mirage stage for Louis The Child b2b Jai Wolf, which was packed to the brim with fans. The 200-foot wide screen created an immersive experience paired with bright lasers, dazzling visuals, and pyro, effectively showing off the stage’s full production. As they took to over the decks, Louis The Child added to the excitement by announcing their newest album, The Sun Comes Up, would be released on September 20.
The two acts performed various tracks from their extensive discographies to the dialed-in crowd, which fed off the energy. Jai Wolf’s “Indian Summer” created a magical moment with rainbow lasers and shots of the crowd vibing to the beloved tune. The song blended into Louis The Child’s “Better Not,” making for a sentimental send-off to a special evening in the city that never sleeps.
Stay tuned for the release of The Sun Comes Up on September 20, and don’t miss your chance to catch Louis The Child on tour when they head to a city near you.
