San Francisco is preparing for the return of Outside Lands, and the newly improved SOMA stage will be the place to be for dance music lovers’ needs.
Home to one of the most vibrant nightlife scenes in North America, San Francisco is no stranger to good music. Evidence of that can be seen in the continual return of the dearly beloved Outside Lands music festival held in Golden Gate Park every year. This year, the festival returns on August 9-11 for its 16th year, bringing a diverse abundance of musical artists ranging from pop to rock to country to hip-hop to electronic music.
Created and hosted by Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly, and Starr Hill Presents, Outside Lands has a rich history within San Francisco. Attendees from far and wide have been able to witness musical bliss personified, all the while providing a noticeable boost to the local economy. One way they’ve developed this rich history is by reflecting the best of dance music with the SOMA stage throughout the last three years.
“We had always wanted to do more with electronic music at the festival, and SOMA has given us a unique and special space to do so,” said Ben Bryan, Another Planet Entertainment’s Talent Buyer. “Starting as a tent for underground club music, the stage has evolved every year since its debut in 2021. From increased capacity to tweaking the stage layout to redesigning the production yearly, our goal is to always keep SOMA relevant and forward thinking.”
That forward-thinking approach has led to this year’s tweak, which sees the former tent shift into an outdoor space with plenty of room. That way, more fans can move and groove to top-tier and rising electronic artists during Outside Lands and avoid last year’s dancefloor debacle.
This year’s SOMA is bigger and better than ever. Not only are we moving outdoors and increasing the capacity, but also putting artists 360 in the round, a concept that’s really taken off in the dance community. The new version of SOMA will continue to offer something very different from the other stages at the festival, keeping to its club roots. We’re very excited to debut the new design and see everyone’s rection at the festival.

Previous years of the SOMA stage have featured the best of house and techno, and this year, it continues that tradition with another stunning lineup. San Francisco native Angrybaby, The Blessed Madonna, Idris Elba (now IDRIS), Seth Troxler, SIDEPIECE, Sofia Kourtesis, and more are slated to play in just a few short weeks.
We are music fans first and foremost. SOMA is our passion project. We always want to keep the lineup fresh and new, while also honoring house and techno’s long history by curating a diverse lineup with a little something for everyone. This year you can catch legends (Seth Troxler, Blessed Madonna), local rising stars (Kaleena Zanders, Angrybaby, Jackie Hollander) and everything in-between from amapiano (Uncle Waffles) to tech house (Sidepiece, AYYBO) to future headliners (TSHA, Sofia Kourtesis, Anish Kumar).
