The Third Room Festival’s organizers cited “low ticket sales, which makes the whole production financially unfeasible.”
Another festival has folded in 2024 — this time, with less than a month to go before it was slated to take place. The Third Room Festival, which was set to return to Hattingen in North Rhine-Westphalia from August 7-8, has been forced to cancel its 2024 event on account of low ticket sales.
The festival’s organizers revealed as much in a statement posted via Instagram. “We are still buzzing from the overwhelming feedback of STF24, yet we’re having a hard time enjoying the success because we have bad news for you regarding The Third Room Festival 2024 in August,” it reads. “We are very sorry to announce that we must cancel T3R Festival due to various factors.”
Most of their concerns seem to stem from meager ticket sales. “Despite the affordable prices, a significant factor is the low ticket sales, which makes the whole production financially unfeasible,” they wrote. “We are an independent company and don’t have silent investors or big sponsors.”
Because of this, The Third Room Festival’s organizers said, they would not be able to deliver the “magical,” “intense and intimate” experience attendees have come to expect. They also identified “regional handicaps” and the “administrative problems of the City of Hattingen” as having further solidified their decision.
The Third Room Festival is known for organizing techno events in industrial landmarks throughout Germany. The lineup for next month’s event included artists like Lady Starlight, KiNK, Rødhåd, Perc, and Patrick Mason.
The organizers have shared that ticket holders will receive refunds within 14 business days. “Taking a step back is the best way to look forward and come back with exciting new ideas for the future,” their statement concluded. “We are very sorry to let you down.”
