Police are also searching for two men suspected of attacking a 16-year-old boy who is now in a medically induced coma.
40 people were arrested at or near TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow over the weekend. While that isn’t a tremendous number for a festival that drew roughly 50,000 to Glasgow Green on each of its three days, the ages of some involved in these incidents are raising eyebrows.
Perhaps most notably, a 13-year-old girl was one of the 29 people arrested on site, according to Police Scotland. Her offense was breach of peace, meaning that she behaved “in a riotous or disorderly manner” the likes of which could “cause significant alarm to ordinary people and threaten serious disturbance to the community,” according to the Scottish Government.
A 15-year-old boy was one of 25 people reportedly arrested on Friday and Saturday. According to BBC, on-site security guards also had to prevent two boys from scaling the fence lining the perimeter of the festival grounds on two different days.
Outside of the arrests, police are now on the lookout for two men suspected of brutally beating a 16-year-old boy. The incident took place shortly after 3pm on Saturday in front of the Ferris wheel. The boy was hospitalized in critical condition and put in a medically induced coma, but he has since recovered enough to be discharged per the Glasgow Times.
“This incident has left the victim with serious injuries, and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the males responsible,” said Detective Sergeant Stephen Greenshields. “Numerous people will have witnessed this incident, and we would urge anyone with any information that could assist with our enquiries to come forward.”
TRNSMT Festival 2024 billed mainstream acts like former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Cinnamon, and superstar DJ and producer Calvin Harris. The gathering has taken place annually since 2017, save for 2020, when it was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
