Video clips from Fred Again..’s first US stadium event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum show fans climbing onto a catwalk and the show stopping after a section of it breaks.
Excitement ran high at Fred Again..‘s Friday, June 14 show at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum — too high, some might argue.
Toward the end of the multidisciplinary English musician’s performance when a firework show was getting ready to start, fans climbed onto elevated catwalks running across the event site en masse. The staging cracked and broke in some places, forcing the event team to halt the music and instruct attendees to get down in the interest of their safety.
One video posted to TikTok appeared to show a section where the catwalk collapsed and an attendee fell through to the ground. According to EDM.com, however, no injuries were reported.
The incident was a minor setback in an otherwise successful show for Fred Again.. (real name Frederick John Philip Gibson). It nearly sold out, and multiple times throughout the night, Gibson climbed into the grandstands to perform alongside artists like his “adore u” collaborator Obongjayar.
Gibson’s career started to pick up steam when he was only 16 and connected with seminal ambient artist Brian Eno. By 2019, after roughly a decade had passed, he was somehow involved in about 30% of the UK #1 singles. In the years that followed, however, he would transcend modest liner notes appearances for releases by artists like Charlie XCX and George Ezra as Fred Again.. became a household name in its own right.
In any event, when you’re an artist as big as Gibson, people are bound to act a little crazy around you. With any luck, his upcoming appearances will go a little more smoothly.
