The negligent raver couple claiming to be bringing their infant to EDC Las Vegas 2024 are actually a pair of bored trolls.
Anyone plugged into the EDM festival scene is likely aware of a narrative surrounding this year’s edition of EDC Las Vegas. Screen shots making their rounds on social media suggest that a couple plan to smuggle their baby in and leave the infant unattended in an RV during some of their stay.
The satire should be obvious — but in case any lingering doubt remains, EDM Identity can confirm that the only thing running wild here is the brainchild of two trolls with an abundance of free time.
Namely, the ruse was concocted by a Tempe, Arizona music fan named Odyssey Hedke along with fellow prankster who asked to remain nameless. The two anonymously posted in the Facebook group AZRAVEFAM, offering $100 per hour for an attendee to watch the fictional parents’ baby at Camp EDC on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway festival grounds while they visit pool parties on the Strip. Notably, the post suggests that they would leave the child to fend for herself at night.
“We’re good at night because she’ll be asleep and we can hit the festival while she’s sleeping,” it reads. “But she’ll be awake during the day and we don’t want her getting into anything while locked in the RV. And before you say anything Karens, we’ll have a baby monitor while in the festival. So if she wakes up, we can just go out and put her to sleep.”
Hedke shared a screen shot of the post on Reddit that has received over 750 upvotes and 120,000 views. A post of the graphic by the Facebook page Headbang Society sits at over 450 reactions, 500 reactions, and nearly 150 shares at the time of writing.
At the height of the chatter, Hedke and her friend made a second AZRAVEFAM post: a phony screen shot of Pasquale Rotella addressing the controversy. “I understand and share your concerns with this,” reads what looks at first glance like Facebook post from the Insomniac founder. “I’m taking this very seriously and will be increasing security for rv checks before anyone enters the edc campgrounds.”
As with almost any large-scale music event that offers camping, EDC Las Vegas security staff already search every vehicle that enters the site thoroughly enough to spot a stowaway infant. During last year’s event, a pregnant woman did go into labor on site, but she was transported to University Medical Center and gave birth there.
Hedke says that the troll was all in good fun. “There’s only a select few that don’t understand my humor, and for the majority, I know people enjoy everything I put out, whether it’s snarky, slightly rude, or sarcastic,” she told EDM Identity. “And I do it for the people who enjoy it.”
“I was bored and remember seeing a lot of posts recently where animals, kids and etc being brought to festivals … Last year there was a little boy (6?) Inside the raceway playing with ravers,” added Hedke’s anonymous collaborator. “I think there was also a cat? I remember each time one of those events gets posted, there has been a lot of uproar. I wanted to to get a rise out of everyone and holy shit… it took off.”
So no, a neglected infant will not be sitting all alone in an RV at EDC Las Vegas this weekend… And please, don’t take this as a challenge to smuggle in your kid just to prove us wrong.
