Six years after her one-time boyfriend Avicii died of suicide, Emily Goldberg has passed away due to a pulmonary embolism.
Entertainment professional Emily Goldberg has died of a pulmonary embolism at age 34 after previously battling cancer. For two years, she had dated Tim Bergling aka Avicii, an EDM superstar whose own untimely 2018 death at age 28 was attributed to suicide.
In May 2023, Goldberg had revealed to the public that she was on the tail end of a struggle with cancer. A photo she posted to Instagram showed her intubated in a hospital bed, with text reading “I lived bitch” superimposed over the top. “I have had cancer for the past year,” reads the caption. “I am now cancer free.”
Then, on April 3 in La Jolla, California, Goldberg died of pulmonary embolism, according to her obituary. A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot that blocks circulation to the lungs, and some cancer treatments are among the numerous things that can cause one.
A George Washington University graduate, Emily Goldberg dated Bergling at the height of his fame. She worked in event planning and social media management at the Wynn Encore Hotel in Las Vegas, where the “Levels” producer maintained a DJ residency. When he died, she shared a touching tribute. “‘Come on babe, don’t give up on us. Choose me, and I’ll show you love.’ Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them,” read part of her Instagram post.
Later in life, Goldberg developed a deep interest in American and Japanese wrestling, according to her obituary. She is survived by her parents, Sam and Julie, as well as her brother, Aaron. A private memorial service was held by her family and loved ones.
