Shaq’s Bass All Stars at Red Rocks will see DJ Diesel himself joined by Habstrakt, Riot Ten, and others.
Ever since an appearance at Tomorrowland 2014 launched his DJ career, Shaquille O’Neal has landed enviable gigs under the name DJ Diesel. October 27 will mark one of his biggest yet. The basketball-star-turned-DJ tops the bill for Shaq’s Bass All Stars at Red Rocks.
According to a press release, O’Neal will immortalize his first-ever headline show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre by installing a custom stage at the red sandstone-flanked venue. Also performing at the event are Habstrakt and Riot Ten, not to mention a back-to-back set between Benda and Stoned Level as well as another between CELO and Kozmoz.
“For the very first time we are bringing SHAQ’s Bass All Stars to the mountains and I cannot wait for what’s in store,” said O’Neal of the upcoming event. “I personally curated the entire lineup and invited some of the best names in bass music to join us. Just wait until you see our custom stage as well… the DIESEL is coming!”
The timing of the announcement isn’t ideal, as O’Neal recently drew backlash from Colorado basketball fans for telling Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic that he did not deserve to be named most valuable player on his TNT program, NBA Tip-Off. O’Neal, a retired Hall-of-Famer, will likely still have no trouble packing his Red Rocks debut as he’s amassed a fan base in EDM independent of his sports following.
O’Neal’s DJ career over the past decade is not his first foray into music. He famously saved up and bought his first pair of turntables for $200 after seeing Public Enemy live for the first time, and he released a platinum-selling rap album titled Shaq Diesel in 1993.
Presale for Shaq’s Bass All Stars at Red Rocks goes live at 10am MT on Thursday, May 16, with the general sale starting at 10am MT on Friday, May 17. Purchase tickets via AXS.
