deadmau5 looks to be taking a page out of Meow Wolf’s book for his new, immer5ive experience at AREA15 in Las Vegas.
It’s safe to say deadmau5 marches to the beat of a different drum (kit). Between his one-of-a-kind music, loud personality, and distinct entrepreneurial streak, he practically challenges the status quo at every turn. His newest project, immer5ive experience, is no exception. As the name suggests, it promises an audiovisual activation that breaks from the live music formula.
How so? Well, that remains to be seen. His team has remained somewhat tight lipped about exactly to expect at immer5ive experience, which runs from May 16 to July 11 at AREA15‘s Museum Fiasco in Las Vegas.
According to a press release, it will feature “visuals themed from past mau5hop experiences” as well as “lighting scenes for the eyes and a specialty deadmau5 soundtrack for the ears.” Photos on the AREA15 event page show what appears to be a grid of LED-lined columns with spotlights shining down from overhead.
The immer5ive experience kickoff coincides with mau5hop Las Vegas, a deadmau5 pop-up store that will operate from May 16-19. That’s not all. It also falls on EDC Week, the lead-up to Insomniac‘s flagship festival, EDC Las Vegas, at which time Sin City is overrun with ravers from all corners of the globe. Something tells us that wasn’t an accident.
Joel Zimmerman, the man behind the ‘mau5, has produced music since the mid-’90s, when he was a pre-teen. A decade later, he released his first studio-length album, Get Scraped, but his 2008 effort Random Album Title was the release that made him a household name.
AREA15 is a Las Vegas art district that plays host to a wide variety of events in the dance music space. In the past several weeks alone, immersive raves called We’re All Mad Here, and Secret Garden took place at the sprawling venue.
