If successful, Temple SF’s rebrand will also extend to Temple Denver and the company’s new Los Angeles location.
Last week, news broke that San Francisco nightclub Temple SF would close due to financial difficulties. EDM Identity can confirm that the club’s ownership plans to rebrand and reopen it under a new banner: Future Factory.
A source closely familiar with Temple’s business operations has told EDM Identity that the SoMa club is not subject to “a truly permanent closure,” but rather “a re-brand/re-filing of the business.” Apparently, the rebrand to Future Factory has been the goal for some time, but the temporary closure was not initially part of that plan.
According to the source, the rebrand will also extend to Temple Denver as well as the new nightclub the company is opening in Los Angeles. They said that the goal timeline is six months from now, although it’s a “very rough prediction.”
What remains unclear is how Temple SF plans to navigate its current financial setbacks. A WARN notice submitted to the California Department of Employment Development read, “For the last several months Temple Nightclub has experienced financial difficulties due to economic changes within our industry. In the past years we have taken action to adapt to this new market with new processes. Unfortunately, this action has not resulted in increased profitability.”
Temple SF was not immediately able to respond to EDM Identity’s request for comment.
Located at 540 Howard Street, Temple SF has billed artists such as Steve Aoki, BORIS, 3LAU, and Knife Party since its 2007 grand opening. According to the WARN notice, its final day of operations will be May 25 — but the event calendar on its website shows no upcoming events at the time of writing, and its final event took place two Saturdays ago.
Will Temple SF successfully rebrand and reopen as Future Factory? That appears to be the plan. With so many variables at play, however, the future of the nightclub looks to be anybody’s guess.
