The Brazilian government has agreed to collaborate on a ten-year roadmap to ensure Tomorrowland Brasil’s continued success.
Tomorrowland Brasil first took place in 2015. After the following year’s event, it went on a six-year hiatus due to economic instability in the area. It finally returned to Parque Maeda in Itu, São Paulo last year, and this time, it looks like it’s here to stay. With the help of logistical improvements, the annual festival will continue to operate for another ten years.
Tomorrowland organizer We Are One World revealed as much in joint press conference in São Paulo alongside promoter DC Set as well as the state’s creative industries, culture, economy, infrastructure and logistics secretaries. According to Eletro Vibez, they said they estimated the economic impact of the 2023 event to be R$676 million (equivalent to $132 million USD) and expect it to reach R$9 billion ($1.76 billion USD) after ten years.
Did one day of last year’s festival getting canceled due to inclement weather make any of the aforementioned parties hesitate? Quite the opposite, apparently. Environment Secretary Natália Resende Ávila shared a 12-month roadmap intended improve routes to Parque Maeda, for which the govermnent will allocate R$22 million, as well as a three-year investment of R$30 million into the Tomorrowland Brasil site itself.
Alok, a Tomorrowland ambassador and arguably the most popular electronic music artist in the country, also spoke at the press conference. Mentioning that he woke up early because “I needed to be here celebrating this brand’s 10-year commitment,” he touted the festival as pillar of Brazilian music that would spur future innovation among local electronic musicians.
Now a global event brand, Tomorrowland first took place in Boom, Belgium in 2005 and drew a relatively modest crowd of 10,000. In the nearly two decades since, that flagship festival has grown to exceed 400,000 attendees annually with entertainment split between 14 stages.
Organizers have yet to announce any lineup details for Tomorrowland Brasil at the time of writing. Learn more about the festival on its official website.
