ODESZA’s dynamic set and Zouk Nightclub’s top-tier production were a match made in heaven for the debut of the duo’s residency.
It’s no doubt that Las Vegas is a premiere nightlife destination. It makes sense for a city of excess, where lights dazzle and visitors can escape and get their fill of whatever they’d like. When people travel from around the world to bear witness to the spectacle that is Vegas, the nightlife and music scene rises to the occasion, becoming a spectacle in itself.
Newer to the scene is Resorts World, home to Zouk Nightclub and Ayu Dayclub. Resorts World staked its claim in the dance music scene by hosting the first ever Hotel EDC experience, which will return this year. Combining innovative technology with dance music’s biggest names, Zouk is one of Las Vegas’ most sought-after clubs. New to the 2024 residency roster including heavy hitters like ILLENIUM, Kaskade, and deadmau5 is global phenom ODESZA.
“Zouk Group is elevating the nightlife scene in Las Vegas as we continue to push boundaries and offer a diverse range of talent featuring Vegas newcomers and industry veterans alike. Being home to ODESZA’s first-ever Vegas residency is an incredible feat and we are thrilled to have artists of this caliber at the forefront of our lineups at Zouk Nightclub and Ayu Dayclub.”
Zouk Group Vice President Joe Lopez
The announcement of ODESZA’s residency garnered excitement from their fans. They’re known for their incredible live sets, and this would be a chance to see them work their magic behind the decks. The duo were set to make their residency debut on March 23, and EDM Identity was lucky enough to be there and see it all firsthand.
From start to finish, Zouk transported us out of this world.
Entering the club felt like boarding a massive spacecraft. Large LED panels lining the ceiling and an equally massive center installation emanating with lights made for an all-encompassing visual experience.
Each component moved up and down, back and forth dynamically in a way that felt on par with larger-scale festivals. The movement made the space come to life. Zouk’s layout is expansive and allowed for unobstructed views of the stage stage from anywhere. We also appreciated how easy it was to navigate.
We arrived just ahead of Phantoms taking the stage and were surprised to see our logo on the big screen behind us. This was such a welcoming touch, and an indication that we were in for a great night.
Local DJ Estovega warmed us up before Phantoms kicked the party into high gear with their funk-infused house beats. Beams of multicolored light oscillated down onto the crowd from the ceiling and center installation as their often silly visuals were cast on the screens. Their dancing was infectious and primed us all for the headliners.
By midnight, the dancefloor was packed in anticipation and it was time for ODESZA.
Pure joy are the only words to describe what happened next. The energy was unmatched during club-ready VIPs of their hits like “Wide Awake,” “Memories That You Call,”and “All We Need.”
They also flipped hip-hop and house tracks including Ultra Nate‘s “Free,” and our personal favorite, Kendrick Lamar‘s “DNA” into their own “Loyal.” I don’t think we ever stopped dancing. ODESZA fed off the crowds energy, and we felt it coming off of them too.
Lasers danced across the room during “Bloom.” CO2 cannons blasted during “Heads Will Roll.” Confetti rained down during their last song “Last Goodbye.” Throughout the set, visuals of ODESZA’s logo and some taken from their live shows were not only cast onto the back wall but across the ceiling panels as well. The sheer amount of lights synchronized to the music was impressive for an indoor space. It’s safe to say that few clubs come close to what Zouk’s production offers.
ODESZA’s live production is unparalleled, but their DJ sets are a must see. Some of the walls come down and you see two friends who love what they do, doing what they do best. It was so endearing to see them laugh, dance, and relish in the moment along with us.
Luckily for everyone, there is another chance to catch ODESZA at Zouk on May 4. Tickets and tables are available on the Zouk website. And for those that cannot get enough, they will be bringing their Last Goodbye Finale show to five cities in the US. For more information and tickets, visit the ODESZA website.
