Tomorrowland has set the record straight regarding previous reports that it is planning a 2026 festival in Thailand.
Earlier this week, EDM fans in and around Thailand rejoiced over exciting news that Tomorrowland had begun planning a festival there for 2026. “Not so fast,” say the organizers of the Belgian event brand.
Thai publication The Nation first reported that a government spokesperson named Chai Wacharonke said that Thailand would be the first Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member country to host Japanese festival Summer Sonic as well as Tomorrowland. He reportedly said that the latter had been planned for 2026 and could run for ten years. The story was also picked up by outlets like Lifestyle Asia and DJ Mag.
Tomorrowland’s team has now gone on the record saying that their plans to expand into Thailand are not yet final. “In December the Tomorrowland team had the privilege of engaging in discussions with various parties and exploring potential locations for a Tomorrowland festival in Thailand,” the brand’s spokesperson told EDM.com. “Deeply touched by the warm support, we must clarify the recent speculation: nothing has been officially confirmed or signed at this time.”
They continued: “The Tomorowland team is diligently conducting thorough research and exploration to assess the feasibility of hosting Tomorrowland in Thailand. There is still much to be investigated.”
Oddly enough, this is the second recent announcement flub around a major festival brand’s expansion into Thailand. At the end of February, Insomniac Founder Pasquale Rotella accidentally spilled the beans that EDC Thailand was in the works during the Music Through Music lineup reveal for EDC Las Vegas.
Southeast Asian EDM fans can at least take solace knowing Tomorrowland’s organizers didn’t outright deny that the Thai festival would take place. Lesson learned: Wait for an official announcement from the organizer before you start planning your outfits.
