Kiro Prime sheds light on what the dance music scene is like in Honduras and gifted a mix that is filled with energetic house grooves.
The countries that make up Latin America have helped shape the current era of many different scenes from house and techno to dubstep and more, and Kiro Prime is one artist looking to make a splash. Hailing from Roatán, Honduras, he’s brought his unique flair to labels like Banzai Records, Glorie Records, Groove Bassment, and more over the past few years, while also catching the ear of Tchami who has signed him to Confession. His latest release, “Rock The Mic,” landed on that imprint earlier this year and puts his booming bass house style on full display, but there’s more to the story of this rising artist in the scene.
Although Kiro Prime wasn’t a huge fan of electronic music as a kid, curiosity got the better of him when he was 14 and met his Ukrainian friend Roman, who later introduced him to electronic music. “[Roman] was a DJ/producer based in New Jersey at the time, and I was mind-blown by what his hobby was. He showed me a few videos of him playing music, something unknown to me then; you can say it was the very first time I saw a DJ,” he shared. “I was hooked since that day, and I started doing my own research by listening to Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. I fell in love with that music and always wondered how those sounds were created. Then, a few years later, I got my first laptop; the rest is history.”
While Central America might be booming with some unique experiences in countries like Costa Rica, Kiro Prime’s home in Honduras is still unfolding. “There’s a small scene and a few people helping grow the movement,” he said. “There aren’t clubs dedicated to dance music, but people are slowly discovering the music. I would say it would be a much bigger scene and more opportunities for artists such as myself to share the art of being a DJ in a few years.”
Although the clubs in Roatán aren’t bumping with electronic beats regularly, there’s plenty more to do on the island, with Kiro Prime saying that once you make it there, “you won’t want to leave.” He boasted of the constant summer weather, spectacular sunsets, crystal oceans, amazing local people, great food, and fun activities, all of which contribute to making this a true paradise.
For a night out on the town, Kiro said he’d start by heading to local restaurants for food before getting drinks at West Bay Beach. “Just imagine drinking a delicious cocktail on one of the most beautiful beaches of the world,” he went on to say. “And for dancing I would take you to West End, it’s such a fun time the nightlife, bar hopping is the way to go.” That fun nightlife is exactly what Kiro Prime delivered in his mix today, so press play and get swept away to the nearest dancefloor.
