Carl Cox has been announced as the first guest of Space Riccione’s opening party.
In fall 2016, Carl Cox headlined the final closing party for Space Ibiza before the storied nightclub discontinued operations. It is fitting, then, that the iconic DJ, producer, and dance music spokesman will usher in a new era at Space Riccione when he performs at the venue’s grand opening on Sunday, June 2.
So far, Cox is the only headliner announced for the occasion. In true Space tradition, the party will begin during the day and extend into nighttime. Cox will play a hybrid live set and be accompanied by additional artists on the final lineup.
Riccione is located in the Italian riviera and boasts sought-after nightclubs like Musica Riccione and Discoteca Cocoricò. Consisting of four main areas called the Arena, Garden, Terrace, and Lounge, Space Riccione looks to cement its parent company’s expansion into the market.
“The new era of Space will be a beautiful and unique experience,” said Space Riccione COO Fabrizio de Meis in a statement. “We’re excited to reveal our vision of a state of the art, club-meets-festival venue.”
Added Pepe Rosello, the founder of Space: “We are happy to continue 27 years of Space Ibiza history here in Riccione, an iconic place that represents entertainment.”
Rosello took over Space Ibiza — then known simply as Space — in 1989. Artists like Black Coffee, David Guetta, Nicole Moudaber, Carl Craig, and Sven Väth performed there throughout its lifetime, and many associate its most prosperous period with Carl Cox’s 15-year residency at the club. It kicked off in 2001 and concluded with his nine-hour set at the 2016 closing celebration.
Space first started dropping hints about its plans to open Space Riccione back in June. “It’s coming,” read an Instagram post, along with a blurb in Italian that translates to “Freedom, transgression, love, diversity, harmony, friendship, empathy, connection and music.”
No ticket sale date has been shared for Space Riccione’s grand opening party at the time of writing. More information will be available soon via the Space Riccione website.
