A representative for Bassnectar has cited the artist’s “health issues” as the reason for the Boombox Vegas cancelation.
Although Bassnectar (real name Lorin Ashton) has continued with his attempts to make a comeback in the scene amid his ongoing civil case for child trafficking and sexual abuse, the road has been rocky. Pushback from the dance music community has seen success as they’ve rallied together to get his announced shows in Asheville and Atlanta canceled, while the shows that did take place in New York and Las Vegas were protested heavily. The latter of those cities is where Bassnectar looked to return once again after his latest cancelation, but today, it was revealed that it will not take place.
On February 7, Bassnectar announced that he would bring his two-night Boombox event to Las Vegas at The Theater at Virgin Hotels on April 26-27. This sparked more public outcry, with community members coming together once again to protest the show as tickets went on sale. Among them was Juan Garcia, who was at the forefront of the Atlanta show’s cancelation and launched a PSA that urged others to reach out to journalists, local news outlets, AEG, AXS, and the venue.
Last night, a post on r/bassnectar surfaced with a screenshot from one of the Discord moderators, “jake.,” stating that the show has been officially postponed. In the vague message, he cites Bassnectar’s “health issues” and an apparent need for a surgical procedure as the reason for the show’s cancelation. This led to many comments from members of the subreddit expressing their dismay with how he’s handled his comeback. Many flat-out stated that they felt he was lying, speculating that this cancelation was due to low ticket sales.
Earlier today, Festive Owl reported that the AXS ticketing page for the event had been updated to say that the show had been canceled while claiming that their own sources have “indicated that tickets also were simply not selling.”
As of publishing, there has not been an official statement of the event’s cancelation on any of Bassnectar’s social media pages. Comments have also been disabled on all of his posts. The event listing remains live on AXS, but attempts to purchase any result in a message that they are “no longer available.”
Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
