Skrillex Has Teased at Least 49 IDs, and Some Are Straight Gas

Some of the IDs Skrillex teased on Instagram date all the way back to 2013.

Nabbing the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Recording appears to have sparked inspiration in Skrillex. The world-famous DJ, producer, and dance music innovator has teased a wealth of new IDs — at least 49 of them — showing that he’s sitting on a monstrous heap of unreleased music.

Skrillex (real name Sonny Moore) made the disclosure on Monday evening via his Instagram stories. Each clip he uploaded is a recording of playback from a device other than the one from which the music itself plays, with a tranquil visualizer running on a monitor.

Some of the IDs have been recognized as having made appearances up to 13 years ago, going by working titles like “Battlefield,” “Jurassic,” and “Spitfire.” The majority are seemingly brand new, however. They span early Skrillex era complextro, more recent techno and house with his signature touch, a distinctive take on future bass, and, predictably, plenty of concepts that are difficult to categorize.

Notably, a significant number of the IDs appear to be collaborations with Latin singers and emcees, often juxtaposed with cavernous, metallic bass wobbles. At least one of them also appears to be a collaboration with breakout bass music artist ISOxo.

Moore first made a name for himself as the frontman of post-hardcore band From First to Last, leaving the band in 2007 to pursue electronic music (in part due to the strain on his vocal cords). His new project swiftly gained momentum following the 2010 release of his My Name Is Skrillex EP, which blurred the lines between electro house and heavy dubstep.

Skrillex was nominated for five GRAMMY Awards categories in 2012, three of which he won. His recent win alongside Four Tet, Fred Again.., and Flowdan brings him up to nine total GRAMMYs over the course of his dance music career.
