Amnesia Ibiza has announced Amelie Lens, Héctor Oaks, and Indira Paganotto as Pyramid Special headliners.
We all look forward to festival season, but summer on the White Isle is a whole different beast. It feels like only yesterday that Amnesia Ibiza drew the curtains on its 2023 summer season, but the storied superclub has announced the lineup for its opening party, Pyramid Special, slated for Friday, April 26.
And what a lineup it is for techno and house aficionados. Amelie Lens, Héctor Oaks, and Indira Paganotto jump off the page if you’re a fan of the former genre. For those who prefer the latter, Hot Since 82, East End Dubs, Luca Donzelli, and Sweely command a formidable draw. Amnesia itself will play no small role as well. Radiating from every surface is a history that extends back since before dance music was a glimmer in any Ibiza vacationer’s eye.
The space now known as Ibiza was once a vacation house that was sold to the Planells family in 1970. It wasn’t until 1976, however, that Antonio Escohotado signed a lease for the unit and began to operate it as a venue.
After house music emerged from the gay, Black, and Latino communities of Chicago, it became one of the key ingredients of Balearic, a style of music closely associated with Amnesia’s own DJ Alfredo. An exchange of ideas between the White Isle and the UK led to the latter country’s acid house explosion, and clubs like Amnesia stood on the forefront.
In the time since, artists like Underworld, Fatboy Slim, Swedish House Mafia, and Eric Prydz have graced Amnesia’s iconic DJ booth. It has a capacity of 5,000 people — and is almost always full in spite of that.
