Phonk Around & Find Out celebrated two years in style with ESCPE, BACKWHEN, Enokalypse, ponsuda., Everyst, and more!

Phonk is alive and well, and the Phonk Around & Find Out collective is steadily trailblazing the path for the uprising genre. The Phonk Around crew has been busy over the last two years providing phonk enthusiasts with a stacked mix series featuring their hottest talent on SoundCloud. With this crew around, the perfect chilled-out old-school rap vibes are always just a cue point away.

Although the collective itself might be a fresher face within the music scene, the backbone of this collective is strong. Corey Blecha has been involved in the pulse of the Denver music scene for over a decade and has the passion and drive to put phonk permanently on the map. So far in the two years, Phonk Around & Find Out has provided quality sounds to all of the Mile High City hot spots, as well as Seattle, Atlanta, and Texas, taking the US by storm with each event, and there seems to be no end in sight.

With a track record of success and loyal fans sure to show up, the beloved collective knew its second anniversary needed to be a celebration fit for royalty. So, in true fashion, the lineup curation had swag overflowing. Set to provide the energy all night, the phonk crew for the evening included ESCPE, BACKWHEN, Enokalypse, ponsuda., and Everyst. Proud to always put on their family, other residents from the collective not billed also took the stage to open and close the night. It’s safe to say they left no crumbs when it came to making this dream of a lineup.

The Two Year Anniversary was a perfect way to start 2024, bringing together phonk fans near and far for one of the most STACKED line-ups in the genre’s history! We are so grateful for the support over the last two years and are humbled everytime we see so many smiling faces on the dance floor. Very proud of what we have accomplished so far, but there’s A LOT more in store that we can’t wait to show everyone.. Stay tuned for some awesome takeovers around Denver, plus more shows around the country this spring and summer!

Hmngbrd Productions brought in the perfect sound system culture to represent the chill frequencies of the night.

After the opening residents took their turns on the decks, and it was time to get the official lineup going. Everyst fit the script just right as he provided the perfect relaxed energy we all came for. As attendees walked in the doors of the Cervantes Other Side building, they were greeted in fashion with Hmngbrd Productions‘ signature plant oasis that always beautifully complements their extravagant sound system.

Up next, the Texas don of phonk ponsuda. provided all of the right jams to get all of the heads in the building nodding to each beat. Slinging several originals, including “What Yo Life Like,” it was impossible not to fall under the artist’s spell as each track rang out across the room, controlling our movements. He had us feeling like we were cruising down Sunset Boulevard in a lowrider.

As an unexpected treat, one of the collective’s rising stars, Enokalypse, was on special guest duties. Just when you thought you had heard his best transition, this professor of sound would bring your jaw to the floor over and over again his entire set. Believe me when I say the packed-out crowd was eating out of Enokalypse’s hand track after track.

Once BACKWHEN graced the stage, it was officially game over.

If you even remotely listen to the phonk genre there is no doubt that you’ve listened to a BACKWHEN track. He was one of my favorites of the night because of his delectable track selections and because he brought the swag in his stage presence that every DJ needs to take close notes on. All night, he continually slathered us with his wavey vibes with OG tracks, but what caused an audible gasp within the building was when he nonchalantly sideswiped us with a new ID with Skeler. From start to finish, he gets a 10 out of 10 in my book.

The room’s excitement hit an all-time high as ESCPE plugged his USB into the decks.

You can’t deny that ESCPE brings a magic touch that’s impossible to replicate, and he proved that fact countless times throughout the night. Proudly representing the Phonk Around & Find Out crew since its birth, you could tell he came to lay it all on the table for his family. The Young Dolph samples were plenty as his storytelling accentuates the vibes to the max, and ESCPE layered them within his set, knowing the assignment at hand. Each moment spent with the artist was electric, but peak energy was felt within the room as his all:Lo compilation vol:1 track “Notice Me” breathed life through the sound system.

After the two-year anniversary came to an end, all I could say was wow. The night inspired me in ways that many shows have been lacking lately. You can tell the crew at Phonk Around & Find Out thinks about all aspects when putting on their events, and that is exactly the kind of collective the scene needs.

If you’re not convinced that phonk is alive and well, we dare you to check out the next Phonk Around & Find Out event and let us know if you still believe your old perceptions.
