Electronic music fans in New York City will soon be blessed with a new Governors Island festival from We Belong Here.
It was almost 13 years ago, in 2011, that Governors Island played host to the inaugural Governors Ball (affectionately called Gov Ball). And while Gov Ball is still going strong, it only lasted that one year at its namesake location. Fast forward to 2024 and event organizer We Belong Here is teasing some incredible news for electronic music fans: a new summer series on the iconic NYC island, a series whose time has come.
Governors Island has come a long way over the past decade. Looking back, it’s hard to imagine the island was able to stage a major festival at all in 2011. At that time, most of the island was still off-limits to visitors, and nature had reclaimed much of the defunct military barracks and structures.
Today, Governors Island is a wildly popular destination for city slickers seeking a respite from the urban jungle. With the entire island finally open to the public just a few years ago, the time seems just right for this exciting announcement.
We Belong Here will be staging six parties over two summer weekends, including Memorial Day Weekend. This summer series on Governors Island will reward attendees with incredible panoramic views of the NYC skyline and neighboring structures like the Statue of Liberty, open-air ferries to the island, and tons of amenities and concessions to explore beyond the festival. We Belong Here is sure to bring a marquee lineup to this event as well!
Details are limited at the time of writing. What we know is that We Belong Here’s summer series will run over two weekends, from May 24 – 26 and from May 31 – June 2 on Governors Island. It will consist of six separate parties whose lineups include over 20 artists (to be announced soon).
You can register for early access tickets through the We Belong Here Insiders program, and general ticket sales will be hosted on their Events page. EDM Identity will provide more information as we get it!
