Charlotte de Witte Launches New Label Dedicated to Belgian Discotheque Culture

Époque is the newest label to fall under Charlotte de Witte’s KNTXT, and it’s set to pay homage to Belgian discotheque culture.

While much of the scene is focused on the future, there’s been a continued push from many artists, ravers, and more to honor the past. Producers have breathed life into dance music classics, throwback sets have been ever-present at clubs and festivals, and celebrations surrounding huge milestones have seen glimpses of bygone eras. Charlotte de Witte is the latest artist to throw her hat into the nostalgia-inducing mix with news of her new imprint under KNTXT, Époque.

The announcement from Charlotte de Witte might’ve occurred today, but the story of Époque really began a few years ago. Then, a Belgian research team came together to document the rich history of nightlife in Belgium as they attempted to capture the nostalgia of the bygone discotheque culture. Working with clubs and labels from the past and present, Époque bootlegged memories and aesthetics to create high-quality apparel and party supplies that paid homage to the scene.

Époque is an ongoing online exhibition of the Belgian scene’s roots, with Cherry Moon being one of the first spaces they touched on in 2022. The story found in the archive features a look into what the scene was like in the ’90s. This includes quotes from the venue’s founder, Rudy Pince, and those who frequented its parties, along with photos, flyers, and merch that was sold during that time. Charlotte de Witte spun a mix that same year honoring the legacy of the space, which can be found on Apple Music.

Flash forward to 2024, and Époque is now set to take its next step forward as a label to further its mission of honoring Belgian discotheque culture. This side of the brand will feature remixes of iconic tracks and translate elements from the past era into new tunes for dance music lovers to bask in worldwide. Although no releases have been announced as of publishing, more news will surely surface in the coming months, so stay tuned!

Check out the announcement video on Instagram and follow Époque on social media for more details.
