Solshine: A Music and Arts Reverie looks to offer more of what’s worked for Summer Camp over the years.
Earlier in December, the organizers of Chillicothe, Illinois festival Summer Camp shared plans to enter a new era under the banner of Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie. The shift feels a lot more real in light of their latest announcement. The May 24-26, 2024 gathering’s phase one lineup is now available, and it features a number of firsts for the long-running festival.
Namely, John Summit, deadmau5, and The String Cheese Incident appear prominently at the top of the bill. The rest of the lineup explores the curious range between jam bands and electronic musicians, with highly notable talent forming a rich sonic constellation therein. On the former end of the spectrum are acts like Mihali, Keller Williams, and Chicago Farmer. Eprom, Wreckno, and Maddy O’Neal hold up the latter.
Summer Camp debuted in 2001, and its lineup of 20 brands drew only 1,000 attendees. Over the years, it has come to attract 20,000 revelers annually and continually expand the representation of dance music on each program.
Aside from the new names, Solshine doesn’t appear to deviate far from the formula it developed over more than two decades as Summer Camp. At the time being, at least, only its name and overall spirit appear to have been updated.
The idea was to make an intentional daydream about how an event like Summer Camp can still bring all the fun and excitement of a festival, but also invite us to use the power of that joy in an intentional way to impact the world. We want to tell the story of how Summer Camp came about, where we are now, and where we believe this dream can take us. The lineup is curated to help tell that story with nods to the godfathers of our scene, the current hottest artists in the genres we represent, and some of the tastiest up-and-comers that will lead us into the future.
