Tomorrowland Announces 2024 Theme and Accompanying Novel

The Spirit of Life will introduce Tomorrowland 2024 attendees to next year’s “LIFE” theme before they arrive at the event.

The success of this past year’s Tomorrowland novel has prompted the event organizer to keep the new tradition going in 2024. It has shared plans to publish another limited-edition nonfiction work titled The Spirit of Life ahead of next year’s festival in Boom, Belgium, which will adopt the theme of “LIFE.”

The Tomorrowland 2023 theme was “Ascendo.” As with every year, the festival’s organizers introduced its story elements in a cinematic teaser video, but they also published the corresponding novel. It proved popular enough for them to bring the concept back ahead of Tomorrowland 2024.

“Attendees will have the chance to recognise elements and imagery from the book at the festival,” reads a press release. “This creates a unique and unparalleled chance for deeper connection that was overwhelmingly positively received by those who seized the opportunity last summer. However, fantasy fans around the world will also get the prospect to delve into the rich storytelling world of Tomorrowland and explore the diverse and magical tale within the book, regardless of their physical attendance at the festival.“

The Spirit of Life is meant to be a prequel to the festival’s 2016 theme, “Elixir of Life.” The story follows Liria, a loyal subject in a kingdom called Bloom who finds herself wrongfully accused of aiding evil forces encroaching on her homeland. She must go on an adventure to find a solution that will clear her name, making newfound connections with the flora and fauna surrounding her along the way.

Tomorrowland has grown from a relatively modest 2005 festival of 10,000 to a monumental gathering of over 400,000 spread across 14 different stages. Each year has seen organizers incorporate more and more story elements into the brand. In fact, what they used to call “the book of Tomorrow” is now big enough to warrant the opening of The Great Library of Tomorrow in Barcelona later this month.

Weekend one of Tomorrowland 2024 is slated for July 19-21, with weekend two running from July 26-28. Pre-order The Spirit of Life ahead of its estimated May 2024 publication on the Tomorrowland store.
