“Add to Music App” will allow TikTok users to save the songs playing in video uploads on Spotify or Amazon Music.
Have you ever heard a track playing in a TikTok and wished you could easily save it on Spotify, Apple Music, or Amazon Music? Soon enough, users in the US and UK will be able to do exactly that.
TikTok’s newest feature is a button that says “Add Song” appearing next to the title of a track playing at the bottom of one of its short-form videos. When pressed, the corresponding upload is saved on their preferred streaming service. The integration also allows users to add it to a playlist, or create a new a new playlist with the song appearing on it.
In TikTok’s press release announcing the new function, only Spotify and Amazon Music were named as partners. TechCrunch later confirmed that Apple Music would be included in the integration.
In addition to dominating the short-form video space over the past five years, TikTok has significantly influenced the music industry. Average song length has decreased since the app proliferated among younger demographics, and it plays a crucial role in any up-and-coming artist’s social media strategy.
“TikTok is already the world’s most powerful platform for music discovery and promotion, which helps artists connect with our global community to drive engagement with their music,” said TikTok Global Head of Music Business Development Ole Oberman, according to the press release. “‘Add to Music App’ takes this process a step further, creating a direct link between discovery on TikTok and consumption on a music streaming service, making it easier than ever for music fans to enjoy the full length song on the music streaming service of their choice, thereby generating even greater value for artists and rightsholders.”
TikTok’s “Add to Music App” feature is in the process of rolling out to users in the UK and US at the time of writing. Additional markets will follow, according to the company’s press release.
