Rave The Planet Parade Announces Date for 2024 Event

After rising from the ashes of Love Parade in 2022, Rave The Planet Parade will return to Berlin in 2024.

Rave The Planet Parade — the traveling techno festival organized by the minds behind Berlin’s historic Love Parade — will return next year. On August 17, 2024, hundreds of thousands of party goers will fill the streets of the German capital for a day of dancing and revelry.

Last year’s parade drew 300,000 attendees who enjoyed DJ sets by the likes of Anja Schneider, Timo Maas, Nakadia, and Klaudia Gawlas across 25 floats. Nightlife is so appreciated for its cultural value in Germany that those who arrived early could even enjoy a speech by Senator for Culture Joe Chialo.

“Today is a special day for Berlin,” Chialo said in this year’s speech. “Here, a tradition is continued that has shaped our city, namely the Love Parade. After painful, wrong decisions in the past, which led to the expulsion of the old Love Parade in Berlin, it is a great pleasure to see that Berlin’s original event is back here, in Berlin, at home.”

Love Parade’s long and storied legacy began in 1989, the same year techno music emerged as the soundtrack of Germany’s reunification following the fall of the Berlin Wall. Organized by Matthias Roeingh (known professionally as Dr. Motte), it served as both a political demonstration and a party. At its peak from 1997-2000, Love Parade drew more than a million attendees annually.

Roeingh distanced himself from Love Parade in 2006 after entrepreneur Rainer Schaller bought the trademark and took it in a more commercial direction. Then, in 2010, tragedy struck. Overcrowding led to stampedes that claimed the lives of 21 attendees, leading Schaller to dismantle the Love Parade brand altogether.

More than a decade later, Roeingh introduced Rave The Planet Parade to follow in the footsteps of the original Love Parade gatherings. The brand’s subsequent newsletter will include details of this year’s theme. Proposals for floats can be submitted until January 31, 2024.
