Beatport to Release Documentary on Five Years of HE.SHE.THEY.

Beatport and HE.SHE.THEY.’s film, Off The Record, will be available to holders of a digital collectible called KINSHIP.

Inclusivity and lifestyle brand HE.SHE.THEY. celebrated its fifth year in 2022. Beatport has partnered with the outfit on a series of digital collectibles called KINSHIP to mark the milestone, one of which is a documentary called Off The Record.

The film explores HE.SHE.THEY.’s origins as the brainchild of UK nightlife entrepreneurs Stephen Braines and Sophia Kearney. As recently as 2017, when they launched the concept in earnest, conversations on inclusivity and self-expression were more limited. This didn’t stop world-class nightlife brands such as Ministry Of Sound, Pacha, and Amnesia from recognizing its value and partnering with Braines and Kearney on subversive events that challenged the status quo.

HE.SHE.THEY. soon grew to be more than an event brand. It has expanded to include a fashion line as well as a record label that champions music by artists like DJ Minx, Cakes Da Killa, Maja Jane Coles, and Faithless.

That’s not to minimize the impact of the gatherings themselves. HE.SHE.THEY. had its biggest year in 2023, organizing events throughout the UK and continental Europe as well as the US. All the while, their mission has remained the same. Kearney and Braines don’t curate events geared toward one specific type of clubber; they intend to create environments where people from all walks of life feel welcome.

KINSHIP will be the second official collection by Beatport’s Web3 arm, Beatport.io. In addition to Off The Record, it will grant collectible holders access to a wide-screen image of Enes Güc‘s “KINSHIP” painting, HE.SHE.THEY. events in 2024, and a downloadable film score by WAX WINGS.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Beatport.io on our first collectible collection,” said Kearney and Braines in a joint statement. “KINSHIP stands as a bold statement on intersectionality, embodying a celebration of diversity, unity and empathy. It’s more than just an art project, it’s a movement in the hope of a more inclusive tomorrow.”

More information on KINSHIP is available via Beatport.io. Watch the official trailer for Off The Record on YouTube.
