Justus spun a mix for us that will add some extra heat to your summer and leave you nostalgic for the early days of the dance scene.
Dutch artist Justus is among today’s crop of producers who are embarking on a full-force catapult to stardom, and his artistic journey in particular has been a special one. As a teenager, Justus dove headfirst into his passion for music, combining his ear for rhythm and melody with dedication and hard work. Years later, his love for the scene that nurtured him in his younger years has brought him full circle. Now, the producer has found himself playing out sets on the same stages where he first witnessed some of his favorite DJs perform.
Seeing as the producer is in his early 20s, Justus might not have been around to witness the ’90s rave scene in all its glory. He sure knows how to capture its essence and keep its spirit alive, though. He’s figured out the formula for blending the traditional with the modern. His music provides a space for the old and the new to intertwine, and his tunes can be enjoyed by those new to electronic music and seasoned rave veterans alike.
Take a peek into his discography from just a few years ago and you’ll find main stage-worthy tunes like “Time To Say Goodbye” and “Meant To Be,” both of which graced Spinnin‘ Records and blasted through speakers at venues all across the globe. These days, his music still encapsulates that same bold, euphoric feeling, but with a slightly different spin as he’s traded massive big room production for more old school techno and trance sensibilities. This shift in sound has attracted the attention of mau5trap, with the producer signing to the colossal label just this year.
In June, Justus released his first track with mau5trap, “Free Love,” making it immediately clear why his name was an essential addition to the label’s roster. The tune also provided a first glance into his Quantum EP, which features the aforementioned track in addition to “Dumda” and “The Sound.” Upon pressing play on the EP, you can prepare to encounter a superposition of industrial sounds, magnitudinal synths, and booming kick drums. What’s more, Justus curated a mix for us to showcase the Quantum EP and allow us to experience a little bit more of his rave-fueled world. Proceed with caution, though – the frequencies heard on this mix might be enough to knock you off your feet.
