There’s something special when you mix Kiiara and Felix Cartal as they blend their styles together and drown stress on “Happy Hour.”

After dropping Lil Kiwi last year, singer-songwriter Kiiara has finally connected with producer Felix Cartal. First coming together back in 2016 when Felix sent her a remix of her acclaimed emotional heater of “Feels,” the right time for them to come together in the studio and officially collaborate finally arrived with “Happy Hour.”

Leaning on Felix Cartal‘s pop stylings with darker, heavier vocals from Kiiara to act in contrast, the track grabbed the attention of fans and tastemakers alike when it dropped earlier this year. Now, they’ve delivered a fresh music video for “Happy Hour” to add even more to the story. The music video begins with Felix being offered a mysterious blue beverage poured by the bartender in a dive bar atmosphere, while karaoke takes place in the back of the bar. As he finishes his drink to unwind, illusions of Kiiara appear on the TV with the lyrics captioned underneath her for the video, leading him to sink further in his disillusionment.

After the scene, we are directed to a vibrant office cubicle that is more playful than it appears productive. We are then pulled through the walls to an outside getaway car where the two characters are spray painting it and living life in the moment of adventure. In the end, we are pulled back to the opening of Felix, peering at the glass he consumed in bewilderment and returning the glass to the bartender.

Speaking about the creation of the music video, Director Kasey Lum said, “The energy of the song is so go-go-go that the visuals we created had to be on the same level. We decided the best move for this was to create a simple surreal narrative because we could take the viewer anywhere and it didn’t need to make sense; as long as the world looked cool, we were on the right track.”

The music video “Happy Hour” is a juxtaposition of our reflection of our day, even daydreaming of letting loose from the average job or about the memories that haunt us from past or occurring relationships. It’s a reminder to not get caught up in our minds and let go and unwind from our everyday life stresses.
