One of the premier New Year’s Eve events in North America, SnowGlobe Music Festival, has been acquired by youth media brand MTV.

SnowGlobe Music Festival, which hosts 20,000 fans over the course of three days (December 29-31), has become renowned for bringing notable artists to the stage along while also blending in plenty of interactive art exhibitions as well. This year, the festival will be celebrating their eighth edition and ringing in 2019 in style with a stacked lineup that features Eric Prydz, Above & Beyond, RL Grime, and more.

But there is cause for even more celebration as today, the SnowGlobe team has announced that they’ve been acquired by MTV as the youth media brand looks to expand their live event footprint in the United States. While their flagship MTV channel is the most well-known portion of their brand here in North America, the brand has been continually growing a solid amount of live events globally that includes the MTV EMAs in Europe and Isle of MTV in Malta.

“With SnowGlobe, MTV is taking the natural next step in its resurgence by expanding deeper into live events, as we continue to reach our fans and capitalize on our strong brand in new ways. In a festival space where many events have become indistinguishable, SnowGlobe stands out with a unique mix of music, sports, and art that makes it a favorite among artists and its growing audience.”

– Chris McCarthy, President of MTV, VH1, CMT, and Logo.

While specific terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, we’ve learned that MTV plans to expand SnowGlobe with additional dates and even bring the festival to more locations around the world.

The new acquisition is also part of the reimagining of MTV’s New Year’s Eve coverage, as they’ll be connecting the festival with their iconic Times Square studio in New York City as well. This also opens the door for SnowGlobe to be at the forefront of an increased presence in the festival scene outside of the winter months, making this deal even more sweet for fans of the brand.

“With SnowGlobe, we’ve always endeavored to create an event experience that sets itself apart from the typical music festival model. We are incredibly excited to be joining the MTV family, whose legacy of developing boundary-breaking programming and events perfectly aligns with our long-standing ambition of creative innovation.”

– Chad Donnelly, CEO of SnowGlobe
