What was your first electronic music event?

My first electronic music event was I Love This City 2012.

What/who influenced you to attend your first event?

I have been an avid concert-goer my whole life and I had a group of friends I had met in high school that showed me these new genres of music I had never heard of. One of them bought my ticket to I Love This City to go & show me what this scene was all about. At the time the only person I knew on the lineup was Skrillex… From there, everything changed.

What is one moment from an event that was special and why?

A special moment for me at an event would be at Day 1 of Nocturnal 2014 when I ended up with an extra ticket due to a friend not being able to come. I was there right when it opened and standing outside the gates trying to sell it & make sure it went to good use. I came across this girl who was sitting down all alone & looked really upset. She was crying because had come all the way from Northern California & her boyfriend had gone into the venue without her and the ticket she had just bought didn’t scan…along with having no car keys and a dead cell phone.

Long story short, I ended up giving her my extra ticket and after a long hour of searching in the venue, I helped her find her boyfriend. When I went to go finally find my friends, she stopped me and gave me this BEAUTIFUL glass-bead kandi and she told me to call it my ‘karma-kandi’. I still wear it all the time & it’s just a reminder to do your best to help others & be a friend when you can! Day 2 I ran into them again & they bought beers for me for the entire night and had a blast shuffling & enjoying a few sets with them as well. Making friends at events is definitely one of my favorite parts of attending!

What is your favorite festival or event?

My favorite event is Beyond Wonderland. It was my first Insomniac festival back in 2013 and I will always remember being so blown away by the music, production, crowd & energy. My favorite memory of that year was the moon was a perfect Cheshire Cat smile and it was just above the mainstage for the whole night. Not sure if Pasquale did that on purpose, but it felt so magical & right in tune with the whole Alice in Wonderland theme, which I’m also a huge fan of. I haven’t missed a Beyond Wonderland since (even in the Bay Area) and out of any festival, I think it will be the one I go to every year.

What is your favorite electronic song and why?

My favorite electronic song…. God, that’s such a hard one…. But out of the thousands I love, I think my all-time favorite is “Pair of Dice” by Tiësto. It was my alarm clock for three years! I wish I was kidding because I know how ridiculous that sounds but, I did it so every morning I would wake up with a smile. My favorite memory with that song has got to be at EDC 2013 (my first EDC) when Tiësto closed his AMAZING set with my favorite song. Right before the drop I had reached my hands up and at the same moment a billion fireworks went off and it was probably the most breath-taking moment I’ve still ever had at a festival.

Who are your favorite artists?

My favorite electronic artists are Kaskade, Tiësto, Eric Prydz, Lane 8, Gareth Emery & Armin Van Buuren. I say they are my favorite because I really enjoy listening to albums from beginning to end and they all have consistently produced great albums throughout their careers.

What are your favorite genres?

My favorite genre of electronic music is trance. 100%. I love all forms & sub-genres of trance… but I also really enjoy progressive, techno, house, big-room, and occasionally I can even get down with some hardstyle!

What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?

I feel that my ‘identity’ in the electronic music community is being a true raver & spreading PLURR, not just at festivals but in every aspect of life. The thing that drew me into this scene was how loving, open & accepting the mindset of this community is. It’s really such a beautiful environment & everyone deserves to be treated with love, no matter who you are or where you come from.

Although I’ve been everything from a kandi-kid to a promoter in the past, another favorite part of being at these shows (besides the music), is the business side of things. I love meeting new people and introducing people to each other and making rad connections. There’s so many people with a lot of passion in this industry and it’s infectious. I’ve always wanted to have a career in the music industry, because I am SO passionate about it. I have yet to find my niche, but I will someday.

Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself for the readers?

The last thing I’d like to add about myself is how much I love to shuffle! It’s always been an amazing way to meet awesome new people & express yourself. You can always catch me shuffling at the back of the trance stage!
