What was your first electronic music event?
My first electronic music event was an underground warehouse party on the docks in San Francisco in 2008, I think the event was called Tronic, didn’t know any of the DJs playing but fell in love with the vibe and was instantly hooked.
What/who influenced you to attend your first event?
I had started making kandi before I’d even been to an event with my friend Toxie, she introduced me to the scene. Then I had a friend come back from Europe where dubstep was all the rage and he took me to my first event.
What is one moment from an event that was special and why?
I think one of my most magical moments at an event was the first time I went to EDC in 2013, it was also the first time I brought my hoop to an event and it was amazing. I didn’t think I was that great of a hooper but got so much positive feedback and met so many other hooper, it’s when I really feel in love with hooping.
What is your favorite festival or event?
As I get more and more into hooping and other flow arts I tend to go to music festivals less and flow festivals more, but a great middle ground is Lightning in a Bottle. Tons of amazing DJs, beautiful festival grounds that are kept clean because it’s a leave no trace event, live art all over and amazing workshops offered as well.
What is your favorite electronic song and why?
Favorite electronic song, that’s always a hard one but right now I’d have to say it’s “Fly to NY” by Above & Beyond because it reminds me of my rave family that is spread out all over the country.
Who are your favorite artists?
Above & Beyond, Infected Mushroom, Parov Stelar, A-Trak, 3lau, Dillon Francis, and Zedd to name a few, I’m all over the place.
What are your favorite genres?
My taste really depends on my mood, I like it all from house to dubstep, D&B, happy hardcore, electro swing, trap and techno
What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?
I would identify myself as a hooper, if I can’t take my hoop to a festival then I’m not going, it’s how I relate to the music. I’m also a huge kandi kid and love trading and meeting new people.
Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself for the readers?
I fell in love with this scene as a kandi kid and through this scene fell in love with hooping. Now I’m lucky enough to perform at these events with Circus Mafia. My love for kandi even landed me a sweet gig with IHeartRaves teaching YouTube tutorials and even workshops at festivals spreading the kandi kid love. This community changed my life and lead me on a path where my wildest dreams came true. When I’m not at a festival I’m probably back home spinning fire.
