Meet Arttu Heikkinen, aka Artuhax, in this week’s #IDSpotlight!
Name: Arttu Heikkinen
Rave Name: Artuhax
Hometown: Kuhmo, Finland
Current City: Eindhoven, Netherlands
Occupation: Music Producer and DJ
What was your first electronic music event?
My first electronic music event was in my hometown, Kuhmo in 2014. It was mid-summer time in Finland and I asked from our local “nightclub” called ‘Hotel Kainuu’, if I could play some music at there on some weekend. Well, the staff took me warmly and cheerfully to have a DJ gig and so we went to.
What/who influenced you to attend your first event?
I was really interested to become doing DJ performances several times in my hometown on a year, so once I decided to pull myself together and I went to the office where I expressed my interested playing music for hotel’s customers.
What is one moment from an event that was special and why?
In Finland, hip hop and pop music culture are the leading genres in here. Certainly, people just want to hear only Finnish hip hop music but when I got to the stage, I promoted to play a bit different music: House and trance music. I was kind of scared and anxious about how the audience will act for my favourite music genres (house and trance) but like out-of-blue I realized that ‘Holy shit, they like this kind of music!!’ The whole event was a success and I felt so blessed after my performance.
What is your favorite festival or event?
For the last two years, my favorite music events are situated in Helsinki. There was a nightclub called “Club Venue” which had really big parties on every weekend! In summer 2015, Mark Dekoda was playing some really great minimal house in the venue and every time I step out of the club, I feel refreshed. Presently, Club Venue is closed but I keep looking for an exclusive night-out events in Finland. Weekend Festival may be the next stop where I would like to go.
What is your favorite electronic song and why?
My all-time favourite electronic music song is “Ghost ‘n’ Stuff” by Deadmau5 featuring Rob Swire (from Knife Party). It’s hard to put this into words but there’s something mythical on this song. In my life, I’ve felt being on the bottom of everything, I mean in social interactions, among the people around me and so on, but somehow this song always lift me up during my bad days.
Who are your favorite artists?
My favorite artists are deadmau5 (of course), Joonas Hahmo, Knife Party and Above & Beyond.
Deadmau5 has done a really big career in electronic music industry and definitely I appreciate his work. His personality and mind are really sharp which makes him convincing. Joonas Hahmo (from Finland) is able to compose fresh trance songs with his own personal touch. You can’t find any tracks similar to Joonas Hahmo’s music. The reason why Knife Party is one of my favorite artists is because Rob Swire’s mixing engineering skills. He is so genius to make tracks with total perfect balance between instruments and the songs are always produced well. Having a studio session with Rob Swire could be the best day in my life if this could ever happen! Above & Beyond is one of the greatest artists in trance scene (not forgetting Armin van Buuren also). I’ve read how this trio get their business to run with small investments starting from London and I appreciate the work they’ve done. Keep going Tony, Paavo and Jono!
What are your favorite genres?
Minimal techno, progressive house, uplifting trance and DnB.
What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?
I want to be the part of the future in electronic music industry. On August, I will move to the Netherlands to study electronic engineering and sound engineering in Eindhoven. I’m working hard to create my unique sound on my music and I believe that on some day, in the future, thousands hours of work from the past, will give a value for.
Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself for the readers?
18 of July I published my newest EP, called ‘Escapism’. It can be found from Spotify, iTunes and Google Play. I would definitely appreciate if you have a time to listen my EP.
