What was your first electronic music event?
My first time I actually went to an event was the Halloween event at Guvernment Nightclub. It was a last-minute decision, I took the train into Toronto and a friend let us stay at his condo. And let me tell you it was like I had emerged from that entrance into a crazy, scary wonderland of music, lights and people. There was room upon room of things to see, listen to and explore.
That’s the one thing I truly appreciate about electronic music, there’s so much room to take the music and truly turn it into an artistic event.
What/who influenced you to attend your first event?
I grew up in a very small farm town so there were no opportunities to going to any sort of event that had electronic music. I loved listening to it but I think at that point I hadn’t even realized what to call what I was listening to.
After a couple of weekend trips to Toronto I had made some new friends and they suggested I try out Guvernment Nightclub. Halloween was fast approaching and it didn’t take much convincing to get me to go. And boy am I glad I listened to them and soon after I moved so that I could be that much closer to the people, music and life that I loved.
What is one moment from an event that was special and why?
One of my favourite moments was my first EDC Vegas in 2014, on the third day when I’m super tired and can barely dance anymore and my boyfriend and I decide to just take a breather and he sits down in Kinetic Field, I sit in his lap and we just hold each other for a bit and sway to the music.
It was nothing spectacular and nothing that anyone else would have noticed much but just those moments when you can be with someone you love and truly take in the music and listen, those are the moments I love the most.
What is your favorite festival or event?
Hands down, Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. Haaaaands down.
I’m a tacky, bright and artsy human at heart and EDC fills all of these. To me art and music just makes sense together and EDC is the festival to me that gets this bang on. This year will be my third year going and while I’m hoping to try some different festivals next year I know this won’t be my last time at EDC. Who knows, maybe I’ll even tie the knot there and make me a big beautiful tacky EDC wedding outfit 😉
What is your favorite electronic song and why?
Whaaaa? Only one? Well let’s go with current favourite because I couldn’t possibly just pick one overall one. The song is “Violet Nights” – Vato Gonzalez & Mucky. I just like the way it hits me in the chest, if that makes any sense.
Who are your favorite artists?
Oh god where do I start, you ready for this?
In no particular order: Armin Van Burren, Above & Beyond (I must have seen them over 10 times now), Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Deadmau5, Oliver Heldens, Axwell V Ingrosso, Steve Angello, Kygo, Aly & Fila, Chris Lake, Gaia, Cosmic Gate, Standerwick, Bryan Kearney, I know there’s more but those are the immediate ones that pop into my mind.
What are your favorite genres?
I love trance first but almost everything else second. I’m a big believer in trying a little bit of everything so the genre I’m into will change based on my mood. But I’m currently listening to a ton of Heldeep radio. It makes me feel groovy and I like it.
What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?
Well referring to what I put as my rave name, “rave momma”, I do feel as the sort of caregiver in our group. I’m the first person with gums, baby wipes, band aids, a hair elastic. You need it? I got it. Or even if you just need to lie down, take a breather and get your head scratched. I’m there for that too!
As long as all my friends (even brand new ones!) are happy and having a good time then I am too.
Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself for the readers?
I make everything I wear! Cause I constantly need more colour and glitter my life and I even make pieces for others! Cause sharing is caring.
I take custom orders and all the love you can throw at me.
